Several neighbors of Junquillal Beach in Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific Coast had made public their desire to have the beach declared a protected area. Junquillal is a relatively small 4-kilometer long beach surrounded by undeveloped tropical forest.

The mega construction of the Marina Papagayo project in the province of Guanacaste has allowed for the discovery of what is believed to be Pre-Columbian fish traps. The location of the discovery is at Bahia Culebra in the Gulf of Papagayo.
